Biotechnology in Animal Agriculture: An Overview
Since the onset of the modern era of biotechnology, scientists have made impressive strides in developing new agricultural biotechnologies. Biotechnologies that enhance productivity and productive efficiency1 have been developed and approved for commercial use. Technologies that improve productive efficiency will benefit both producers and consumers because feed constitutes a major component (approximately 70%) of farm expenditures. New approaches by which animals may be a source of both biopharmaceuticals for human medicine and organs for transplant (xenotransplantation) also are under development. Dairymen Prepared to Protect their Choices
November 7, 2006: More than 100 dairy farmers from Lebanon, Berks, and northern Lancaster counties met in Shaefferstown, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 for a grassroots meeting aimed at preserving their right to choose safe, approved technologies in managing their dairy farms.
